How to find a good pair of swimming goggles?

Question:
Well I have taken up swimming again, but what I need is a good pair of goggles. I’ve had a bad experience with goggles, in that they didn’t fit me and water still got in.

So how do I know if goggles fit? What can I consider to be ‘good’? Are there any brands that are recommended?

Response by rjamason1@sbcglobal.net
Aqua Sphere makes some of the best swim goggles I have ever used. I like their seal goggles as well as their vistas.
The link below goes to the ones I am talking about.

What I like about them is that they have a soft hypoallergenic silicone skirt that conforms quite well to the face. Both the Vista and the Seal give a wide field of vision and are available with clear, tint or blue lenses.

The silicone is used because it is more resistant to the elements and doesn’t break down as fast as rubber goggles. The straps are easy to adjust which allows for a more personalized fit.

Because of their design, the Aqua Sphere goggles fit an extremely wide range of faces

What swimming goggles do you wear and recommend?

Question:
Please state your gender and the type of swimming that you do, and what you like about your goggles?

Answer by Scott K
I wear Speedo Vanquishers, I like the plus models better, because they have a nicer seal. I’m a male who swims 2 to 3 miles per day 6 times per week, they don’t leak and they’re reasonably comfortable. They are also streamlined to reduce the drag (which is minimal anyway.)

How should I take better care of my swimming goggles?

Question:
When water evaporates, inside my swimming goggles become blured due to the steem, what can I do? And one more thing, my swimming goggles’ stripes are not adjustable and since I have a roman nose they bother my nose and every time I go swimming there’s a red line left on my nose, what can I do with that?

Answer from HorseReport HGS
human spit works. i know it sounds gross. Ive been swimming for eight years competivly(4K to 6K a day 6 days a week) and spitting works becasue it keeps the steam out and doesn’t hurt your eyes. Also when you pull your googles up onto your head when your resting the heat coming fro myour head fogs them up.

Is it safe to wear contact lenses when

swimming if I wear swimming goggles?

Question:
Do swimming Goggles prevent water from touching eyes completely? Or does the water still get in? What type is better, Swedish like they wear in races or the other larger type?

Why do most professional swimmers wear them??

Best Answer
At first i had prescription goggles which i depended on deeply but then i got contacts and began to use regular goggles with contacts. it wasn’t as clear and eventually i switched back partly because of that and partly because it is possible to get an infection (just being around the pool area) and because of over-wearing your contacts which can lead to sore eyes, redness and infection. I would wear contacts to school/work etc. and wear prescription goggles. if you swim competitively, a back up pair of p. goggles and contacts and regular goggles help also. just in case. Hope i helped!

ps. yes it is sorta kinda safe but cuz of the water thing get big ones that fit completely over your eye and lid and make sure there tight

Question from Lulu
Can you wear swimming goggles when skiing or snowboarding?
I’m going snowboarding soon and I can’t find my ski/snowboarding goggles. Is it a bad idea to wear swimming goggles instead? I mean, they both do the same thing don’t they?

Answer by Nororious Trip
No not at all. Those are meant for keeping out snow. Not wind

What happens if your swimming goggles are too tight?

Question:
I have swimming goggles and when I take them off it hurts around my eyes. If they are to tight how do I know when i aguste the goggle no water will get in? Also how do I prevent my goggles from fogging up?

Best Answer
Using toothpaste on the inside will keep them from fogging up, it can take a couple applications and washes to work. If in a jam, spit also works, but has a slight “ick” factor.

If they hurt when you take them off then they’re too tight- use air pressure and correct block diving technique to keep them from falling off. when you’re starting from the blocks, your streamline should be securing your goggle straps around your ears and your head positioned to break the water. If done correctly, your goggles should be problem free.
