What are the advantages of full faced masks?

Question from Neil Clarkin
What are the advantages of full faced masks?
Hey guys,
I’m wondering what’s the main advantage of full faced scuba masks as compared to a regular mask and reg. They would seem kind of annoying, especially if you get water in it, how would you get it out? I see lots of Coast Guard divers wear them but other than that I haven’t met any civillian divers who do. Thanks!

Just Curious, Can a person be able to
Just wondering…if it is posible for a person to breathe for mabe 30min to an hour underwater with a scuba mask alone,is that possible? without carring an air tank around. Just to breathe within the mask? I don’t know much about underwater, I am trying my best to figure out a way not to carry an air tank.lol…and a snorkel wouldn’t really work for underwater..would it?

Response from snow
mask is not used for breathing its to see clearly underwater. a snorkel is for breathing

How do i clean a scuba mask?

Question from brittspanielgirl
How do i clean a scuba mask?
I have a scuba mask that i only use every now and then. It’s been sitting up in a closet for several months now and has a film over it and the lens and the rest of the mask just looks dirty. Can you tell me what product will clean this without harming it?

Response by Orsk
I use toothpaste to clean everything on my mask. It worked for a mask that had been sitting at the bottom of a lake for years. It was completely gunked up with algae everywhere and after a good scrubbing and rinse it’s fine to wear. One of my buddies uses it now since her mask is broken.

Good luck with your cleaning.

Swim: Are scuba masks better w/a nose purge or w/o?

Question from Blank
Swim: Are scuba masks better w/a nose purge or w/o?
I plan to use them for just having fun in the pool. I’ve never used 1 w/a nose purge before. Is a whole bunch of water going to get inside anyway and make them useless?

Answer by burnttoast97
go without if you’re just using this to screw around with in the pool. the nose purge was designed for people who couldn’t get the task down of clearing water out of there masks by the method of blowing air into the mask through there nose while lifting the mask slightly away from there face. it’s cumbersome and doesn’t fit comfortabley w/ a snorkel or regulator.

Is there anyway to remove the “yellowing” on

silicone SCUBA masks and make them clear again?

Question from fbpd227
Is there anyway to remove the yellowing on

Best Answer
Hi,
I also have to answer you no, this is the reaction with silicone and the sun, probably you have left in the sun and the yellow color that you have now on the silicone is inside, dont bleach it because you will damage the silicone and it will start cracking after a while, some mask brands allow you to change the silicone only, I could give you a good advice for the future, always clean it with fresh water let it dry and then put it in a box or buy a mask with black silicone.
Wish you a nice day..

Question for people with scuba masks on their avatars?

Question:
Why don’t you SHOW YOURSELF

Best Answer
Yeahhh…I get it. Just like a blond emcee asking an Anonymous donor to introduce himself…

Well…funny…and since you’re in a joking mood…let me just share you my 4-day old original blond joke…

In a Sky jumping school, all students were readying for their very first jump. Naturally, all were excited and nervous. With their plane aloft at 8,000 ft, the Jump Master made a final reminder:

So girls and boys, this is it!. Remember what I’ve been telling you all along…forget your ‘Altimeter’…on your descent when you see People on the ground starts to look like Ants, that’s the time you open your chute…OK? Everybody nodded.

A little while later, all 20 students were out of the plane. One by one, their chutes began to pop up like mushrooms over the sky…except for Blond jumper. To the horror of her jump mates and the crowds below, blond jumper chute didn’t open and she went free falling to the ground. Thud!!!

>>>Fast Forward to Heaven’s Gate, with St. Peter screening all new comers>>>

Blond’s turn now:

ST. PETER: So, what are you IN for?
BLOND: We’ll.. I fell from a plane

ST. PETER: I know, based on your files, you forgot to open your chute?
BLOND: No, I was all the while focused on the way down

ST. PETER: Then why did you not open your chute?
BLOND: I tried, but I guess it was too late

ST. PETER: Hmmm, that’s strange. It also says in your record you’re clean of drugs and the chute’s not defective…
BLOND: (adding with conviction)…and I followed the jumpmaster’s instruction to the letter

ST. PETER: (who’s about to close the book and call it a day, puzzled, looked at blond)..so, what about the instruction?
BLOND: …to open my chute when I see Ants on the ground starts to look like People….

What do you do when you get water in your scuba mask?

Question from Sonata
What do you do when you get water in your scuba mask?
When scuba diving, what do you do if water leaks into your scuba mask? I’ve never been scuba diving before only snorkeling and sometimes if I accidentally breath out through my nose, it breaks the seal and water gets into my mask. Now with snorkeling it’s not a problem because you just swim back to the surface and empty the mask. But what about when you scuba dive?

Best Answer
You have to hold the top of the mask down to your forehead. Then while holding the bottom portion of the mask a little bit away from your face, blow out from your nose.

This works air always rises. In this way, you put all the air in your mask, and it forces all the water out.

How can you use a diver scuba goggle/mask?

Question from
How can you use a diver scuba goggle/mask?
I’m pretty new to the scuba diving business, and i have recently purchased a diver’s mask. I think that’s what you call it. All I want to know is how to use it so that I won’t look dumb out there in the sea.

Best Answer
Spit on it first. This stops it fogging up. If this seems unhygienic to you you can buy a spray as another option from most dive stores. Press the mask to your face, it should stick there for about 3 seconds with suction, if its a good fit. Then pull the elastic strap over the top of your head and you’re good to go!

In the water, it is fairly simple to use. You can clear the mask of water by looking up at the surface, holding the top of your mask with two fingers and exhaling through the nose- this pushes the water out of the bottom of the mask through displacement.

Why do scuba divers wear masks with snorkels

when they have scuba tanks that they can use to breathe?

Question from mizzshopper
Why do scuba divers wear masks with snorkels

Response by Doug
1. Sometimes the divers will swim on the surface from the boat or shore to a point to start their dive. Depending on the location, it may help navigation to have your face in the water so you can arrive at the correct spot. Other times, there might be a lot of sea life during the surface swim that you can observe to help pass the time on the swim.

2. In rough water when you are on the surface, you can breathe through the snorkel instead of using the air from your tank.

3. Between dives, you can go skin diving with your mask, fins, and snorkel.

Personally, I don’t take a snorkel with me on any dive. For item #1 taking a breath and holding it on the surface works just as well to look where you are going or to look at the sea life. For #2, even if your tank is empty, you can use the regulator as a shield and still breathe “around it” in rough seas. For #3, I keep a snorkel in my dive bag if I want to go skin diving between dives.
