Can anyone suggest good scuba diving for beginners in Egypt?

Can anyone suggest good scuba diving for beginners in Egypt?
We are a couple wanting to go scuba diving together in Egypt. We’ve only done a few dives each so don’t want anything too deep at this stage. We would like a nice 4-5 star hotel if anyone can suggest this near dive sites too. Any info about where to fly in would help as well. A trip up the Nile would be a bonus!

All scuba diving places have to tell you the safetyinstructions and how to use your breathing apparatus by law so try anywhere,

Scuba diving……..?

Wednesday Addams asked:
 Scuba diving........?
I am to start a university course next year which includes a diving qualification. I have read in places that a perforated eardrum could cause problems whilst diving. However, it was 14 years ago since my eardrum burst and since then I have had no ear problems (Other than the occasional earache once every 3 months or something) Would I be ok to go Scuba Diving?

Also, I have mild asthma, but again it’s not major – Would this be a problem?

Best Answer
A quick test is to pinch your nose and try and blow through it, both ears should pop with no pain, do not try this with a cold and don’t push it to hard if they don’t. Not all Doctors do diving medical exams, your local diving shop with know of one in the area do, they will test your lung capacity for your asthma.

What is the best type of scuba diving equipment?

Question:
I am going to start scuba diving as a hobby and am looking to get some opinions on what type of scuba diving equipment to buy.
UPDATE!!! I’m looking at this mainly as a hobby but also i’m looking at joining the local dive team as i’m in Law Enforcement. If that makes a difference. Thanks

Answer by Brother Otter
If you’re going to dive “as a hobby” then you’re probably not going to do high-end diving (Tek, photography, cave/wreck, etc.)
That means you don’t have to spend wagon loads of money on expensive gear.
As with anything, there are ‘discount’ grades of gear and opportunities to spend too much.

Get connected with a local dive shop that has a good reputation among local divers. That’s how you want to handle purchase and maintenance of critical life support – specifically your regulator. DO NOT EVER buy this kind of stuff from an online vendor.
Wet suits and gloves and accessories you can buy online once you know what size and what you like. I actually have a wetsuit that I bought used and have gotten good service from it.
Personally, I won’t buy a mask that I can’t try on first.
Fins will last a very long time if maintained and they’re not expensive to buy at the dive shop.

Don’t get in a hurry to buy gear. Try out several kinds as rented equipment first. You’ll especially want to see what kind of instruments you like before spending the bucks on gages or a computer.

What is the best way to find people to go scuba diving with?

Coasterfan86 asked:
What is the best way to find people to go scuba diving with?
I finally just got my scuba certification. I want to go diving. But non of my friends or family are certified for diving. What would be the best way to find people to go diving with.

Answer by Banyan
In order, I would check:

(1) People in your certification class, since they are probably asking the exact same question. If you didn’t get their contact during the class, tell your instructor that you’re looking for someone to dive with and ask if he/she can send an email out to the fellow students. Positives: you’ll be in the water with someone you recognize. Negatives: You’re fellow students are as inexperienced as you.

(2) Your local dive shop. Every dive shop has regulars who dive more than they should, and often they are semi-organized with dives arranged through group emails. Ask your instructor or someone at the dive shop who knows that they are talking about if there are any groups that dive regularly that would be willing to take a newbie under their wing. Positives: You end up with experienced divers, who will point out when you’re doing something life-threatening and can probably rescue you if you totally screw up. Negatives: You’ll feel like a total noob in comparison, but you are a total noob so you might as well just accept it and treat it as free lessons.

(3) Online forums. ScubaBoard is diving central. Check http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/regional-travel-dive-clubs/ for any clubs or groups in your area. ScubaBoard also allows people to post their location and availability to buddy up so you can see everybody around who is looking for a buddy, their qualifications, and how far away they are from. Facebook likely also has a group for divers in at least your state. Positives: It’s nearly impossible to not find somebody diving in your area. Negatives: Since you have no personal connection, anyone you contact could be flaky or just weird.

What camera would be good for scuba diving?

Question:
I am looking for a camera to go scuba diving with that will take good clear pictures and videos. Any suggestions, also what criteria would i look for in a good underwater digital camera?

Response from scubabob
That depends on how picky you are. Most of the amphibians will do ok but not in a spectacular fashion. It’s a trade off. A camera that is permanently in a housing to do both above and below photography for a relatively cheap price. They have average features and their images show that. Sea & Sea, Bonica and Sea Life make these types of camera. Typically 300-800 bucks.
If you want high end and want to be fully in control of the images you take then opt for a pricey DSLR with a specific housing for it made by a company such as Ike Lite. The housing alone starts at 500 bucks, strobes start at around 300 and up…the camera…the sky’s the limit. You’ll have a camera rig though that does both underwater and above water photography as good as it gets.
If spending over 2 grand is out of your budget, you can still find a good point and shoot with many features for about 350 bucks and then add that $500 housing for a good basic rig that will outperform an amphib.
Myself? I use a Canon A720IS with an Ike Lite housing/strobe kit. Total cost was about $825. It has manual/auto white balance, macro and even an auto underwater mode besides the usual digital features.

Is it possible to go scuba diving once

on Catalina Island if you have no past experience?

operajester asked:
Is it possible to go scuba diving once
I would like to go scuba diving on Catalina island for my birthday next month. I don’t have any experience and I am staying there for four days. I would like to just learn how to scuba dive and go on a diving trip that lasts just for a few hours or so. Is there a place that teaches you, gives you a scuba diving trip, provides you equipment, and is affordable in one place? Or should I just forget it?

Response from Ghost of Zeuz
You can take a “resort course”. This course will expose you safely to one dive.

In California, PADI (www.padi.org) gives a list of SCUBA certification places. PADI is located in So Cal.

How long after reconstructive ACL surgery can I go scuba diving?

Question:
I am a healthy 17 year old female athlete. I recently tore my left ACL and will be recieving surgery. I have a scuba trip planned this summer in Hawaii. How long until I can go scuba diving after my surgery? I have already torn my ACL, PCL, and miniscus on my right knee and rocked physical therapy (planning to rock it again) but didn’t scuba at the time so I dont remember how long until I would be able to.

Response from ppo2_diver
It will most likely be months before you can scuba dive. Remember, you are carrying a lot of weight in tanks and lead. Your knee will need to support that weight. Have you talked to your doctor about how long your rehab is going to be? I had a friend who torn his ACL and was not allowed to dive for 8 months. You can also look on the Diver’s Alert Network (DAN). They specialize in diving medicine. Good luck.

How is it scuba diving in Playa del

Carmen? Is it much better in Cozumel?

Question from Cristina
How is it scuba diving in Playa del
I was planning a vacation in one of these places with my husband, and he would like to go scuba diving (I don’t have the license). Anyway, I was wondering if Cozumel is much better than Playa del Carmen for that purpose.
Thank you!

Response by jv
Cozumel is actually only 12 miles off the coast from Playa Del Carmen so the boats basically go to the same dive areas. Cozumel is very quiet and low key while there is a little bit more action at Playa Del Carmen. It’s really whichever you prefer.

What could I do to work towards being a scuba diving instrustor?

Question from bpsdepp
What could I do to work towards being a scuba diving instrustor?
I’m thirteen now, and I want to be a marine biologist and teach scuba diving in my spare time. I’m certified now with NAUI diving. What can I do to work towards being a scuba instructor?

Best Answer
As you know to be a NAUI instructor you have to be a little older. It’s great that you want to go this direction. The best thing to do is get in good with your local instructors. And Dive Dive Dive. Experience is going to be your best bet. As you get older take the classes as you can. Get your AOW, and then Rescue. Get your Master, and then when you can enter the pro level. Working with some instructors will help too. As you dive more and get to know them more, offer to help out both at the shop and with classes. Offer to be a gopher or carry stuff, if in return you can watch the classes. See if they will let you in on the pool sessions, (not so much to do anything but just to watch) You’ll see how the instructors teach, and how they deal with students that are having a little trouble. Work with / watch different instructors this way you can see the different ways they teach. You’ll see how some keep the groups closer together, so are better at demoing skills, some teach the academics so it’s easier to understand, and some are better at calming a nervous student down. See what works, and what doesn’t work as good, and then when you are able to become and instructor you’ll have a library of knowledge so you can be a very good one!

Good luck!
