Possible to find prescription swim goggles for astigmatism
and a different prescription for each eye?
Question from h
I’ve got rotten eyes. My right one (-5.25) is worse than the left (-4.75), and as mentioned have astimatism, in both.
Prescription goggles seem to only come in single-prescription combinations.
Could I see well enough to swim, if I matched to the weaker eye?

I suggest you try -5.0 goggles. The ones I’ve seen for sale online come in 0.5 diopter increments, so that’s all the closer you are going to get. They are only an approximation, so don’t expect the same level of correction and clarity as with a pair of custom-ground lenses, but they should work fine (as long as your astigmatism isn’t too severe). Think about it — You’re not going to be doing rifle shooting or watch repair while you are swimming. Adjust your expectations for what level of clarity you require while in the pool, and you’ll be fine.
My eyes were both around -5.0 while I was in college, and I swam competitively without correction of any kind. (Goggles with corrective lenses were rare and expensive then.) I am now about -8.0 in each eye. Once you get to a power over -6.0, the soft contact lenses I wear only come in 0.5 diopter increments, so I make this kind of compromise every day. It can be a little frustrating at times to not have razor-sharp vision, but -5.0 goggles should get the job done for you.
Note: If your eyes diverge more in power, you can simply buy two pair and mix the lens powers.
I want to buy a swimming goggles with prescription.?
house asked:
I need a prescription swimming goggles. And my prescription is below; OD: SPH (-6.00) CYL (-1.75) AXIS(x180)
OS: SPH (-5.25) CYL (-2.25) AXIS(x180)
Distance, PD=70.
What swimming goggles can I buy with the result above?? Let’s say I wear negative 6 lenses for both eyes. Is it going to work fine??

On Kiefer.com I found the following, which I would not have guessed:
“Use your glasses prescription by adding spherical & cylindrical measurements to estimate diopter.”
If that’s right, you should probably order -8. So you might want to call and get some help before you order. I’m sure your eye doctor would be happy to help you get the right power, too.

I’d talk to your local sports outfitter or your optometrist. I think they’re around 40 dollars here, but it depends on where you are, I’m sure.
how buy prescription swimming goggles?
Question:
here is my prescription: O.D -675 cylinder -100; O.S -675 cylinder -100. I saw some cheap Rx goggles on the net for < $10. The custom made one would cost me > $200. The cheap ones on the net are typically in increment of 0.5 or 1 such as negative 1, 2, 3, 4, 4.5, 5.5, etc. for cmy case, can I get a pair of -7 or -6.5 (my actual Rx is -675 = -6.75?)? I believe those cheap ones do not correct stigmatism?
thanks.
Answer by ND DVM
The main point is to keep you from swimming into the wall, not for perfect vision. Likely your astigmatism will not be corrected, and you may need to compromise on your diopter. Still, it will be good enough. Order several pairs of cheap ones and see which you prefer. http://www.swimoutlet.com/product_p/16292.htm
Is there a such thing as prescription swimming goggles?
Question from So you ask, who am I? Hmmm….
I wear bifocals and I would enjoy myself more at a water park if I had some.
Response by princeidoc
yes. but I’ve never seen any “bifocal” ones. they’re mainly for highly-nearsighted people. The one’s I’ve see are all spherical-equivalents too (no astigmatism)
I want to buy prescription swimming goggles on
line but dont under stand the prescription, can u help?
Thomas R asked:
my prescription is Od -5.25 sphere -1.75 cylinder 10 axis
os -5.25 sphere -2.25 cylinder 175axis
Best Answer
For swim goggles, just the sphere portion is used.
The astigmatism is not necessary to correct under water.
The goggles are probably in .50 steps, so go – 5.50 for both eyes.
Good place to order prescription swim goggles?
jethrow asked:
I’m considering ordering a pair of swimming goggles, has anyone had any experance with aqua goggles?
or any one else.
OK, I know I can have my optometrist make me a pair, but I really don’t want to spend that much on a pair of glasses that I may only wear once a week, and are likely to get lost in the river. Has anyone had any experance with any of the web stores? such as this one: www.Aquagoggles.com
Response from gfcbarracker
Contact your optometrist, just like when you got your glasses or contacts. They will be able to get you the correct prescription and help you get the best goggles for your needs.
i was told on here that prescription swimming
goggles were really expensive, i paid £24?
Question from teresah_1982
that’s not what i call expensive, they are from spec savers. however they would cost me £36 more if i had the exact same prescription as my glasses, lady in spec savers said i can have a tiny bit stronger Lens as it wont make much difference cos i be under water. im happy i can now learn to swim, going to be taught by my boyfriend, then i can go when i want and feel safe
